When the brain is stimulated with pulsed sounds (neuro-electrical activity via the nerves originating from the ears), the overall activity of the brain will respond to and align with these pulses. By selecting the desired rate, the brain — via the frequency following response (entrainment) — can be naturally induced towards the selected brainwave state.
This is a deep Theta MP3 meditation, ramping in steps slowly down to 5.5 Hz. Many people may find this MP3 is so deep that they fall asleep during the session. Others may experience lucid visualizations, since this level of Theta is closely correlated with REM sleep. Deep theta meditation designed for those who have troubles reaching trance states. This MP3 can be used with either headphones or speakers.
It might seem obvious that you’d know when you’re stressed, but many of us spend so much time in a frazzled state that we’ve forgotten what it feels like when our nervous systems are in balance: when we’re calm yet still alert and focused. If this is you, you can recognize when you’re stressed by listening to your body. When you’re tired, your eyes feel heavy and you might rest your head on your hand. When you’re happy, you laugh easily. And when you’re stressed, your body lets you know that, too. Get in the habit of paying attention to your body’s clues.

Electrical impulses and chemical activities in human brain generate brain waves at frequency domains ranging between 0.5 Hz and 100 Hz that characterize different mental states. The states of attention and focus can be traced to areas within the prefrontal cortex (PFC) of the brain at gamma brainwave frequencies of about 40 Hz and above. The cerebral brain cells can be synchronized to a desired ... [Show full abstract]Read more
After the illness, I returned to school and found out that I couldn’t understand what the teacher was saying. Or what people were saying to me in general. Then I had difficulty comprehending math (which I was excellent at before). Then my reaction time just CRASHED. I was also classified by new teachers as “flighty”, “in a dream world”, “not mentally engaged”, as my brain began to stay in a state of sleepy-but-unable-to-sleep mode.
You don’t have to run in order to get a runner’s high. All forms of exercise, including yoga and walking, can ease depression and anxiety by helping the brain release feel-good chemicals and by giving your body a chance to practice dealing with stress. You can go for a quick walk around the block, take the stairs up and down a few flights, or do some stretching exercises like head rolls and shoulder shrugs.
· THETA waves exist between 4 and 7 Hz. This is commonly referred to as the dream or “twilight” state. Theta is associated with learning, memory, REM sleep and dreaming. Memory development is enhanced while in this state. When in a theta brainwave state, memory is improved (especially long term memory), and access to unconscious material, reveries, free association, insights and creative ideas is increased.
I never do much to my hair, but I was ready to update my look a bit. I checked Yelp for some suggestions and I found Christopher Brian Salon. I called after work to make an appointment and they had an opening the next day. Perfect! I walk in and was greeted and offered a beverage. The salon is very sharp looking. I love the long mirrors, the light fixtures and beautiful art all around. When my stylist comes over, she introduced herself, Stacy. We go over my hair preferences and she gives me some options. We decide to try balayage. During my hair treatment, she is easy to talk to and funny. She even gave me a brief history of balayage, which I found pretty interesting. She really took the time to listen to my usual routine and suggested how I can change things in the future, but this was a great foundation to start. After my hair was colored and styled, she never pressured me to buy any add ons. Stacy was professional and kind during my time in the salon. My hair came out beautiful! I look forward to going back!!
One larger and more recent randomized and controlled trial looked at the use of binaural beats in 291 patients admitted to the emergency department at a hospital. The researchers observed significant decreases in anxiety levels in patients exposed to audio with embedded binaural beats compared to those who listened to audio without binaural beats or no audio at all (headphones only).
The exact physiological mechanisms to explain how exercise improves stress have not been delineated. Human and animal research indicates that being physically active improves the way the body handles stress because of changes in the hormone responses, and that exercise affects neurotransmitters in the brain such as dopamine and serotonin that affect mood and behaviors (9,11). In addition to the possible physiological mechanisms, there also is the possibility that exercise serves as a time-out or break from one’s stressors. A study that tested the time-out hypothesis used a protocol that had participants exercise but did not allow a break from stress during the exercise session (5). Participants were college-aged women who reported that studying was their biggest stressor. Self-report of stress and anxiety symptoms was assessed with a standard questionnaire before and after four conditions over 4 days. The conditions were quiet rest, study, exercise, and studying while exercising. These conditions were counterbalanced across participants, and each condition was 40 minutes in duration. The “exercise only” condition had the greatest calming effect (5). When participants were not given a break from their stressor in the “studying while exercising” condition, exercise did not have the same calming effect.
If new stressors are challenging your ability to cope or if self-care measures just aren't relieving your stress, you may need to look for reinforcements in the form of therapy or counseling. Therapy also may be a good idea if you feel overwhelmed or trapped, if you worry excessively, or if you have trouble carrying out daily routines or meeting responsibilities at work, home or school.
Maybe a favorite popular song, a certain piece of Classical music, a raucous dance beat, the pulse of Reggae, Indian, or African drums, or the chanting of Gregorian or Tibetan monks, but you probably know how the sound of music, drumming, or chanting is capable of transporting you into an altered and joyous state of mind and uplifting your spirits.
“Whereas my regular meditation practice gives slow results, I can get into a state of deep relaxation very quickly using the Brain Salon. This is so useful, especially when I need to make a presentation or deliver a pitch. The series helps me de-condition myself from my mind's negative patterns - patterns of stress, anxiety and fear - and instead installs new patterns which help me achieve my goals and end self-sabotage. Love it. Keep up the good work.”
